Microsoft® Agent was a software technology that enables an enriched form of user interaction that can make using and learning to use a computer, easier and more natural.
With the Microsoft Agent set of software services, developers can easily enhance the user interface of their applications and Web pages with interactive personalities in the form of animated characters. These characters can move freely within the computer display, speak aloud (and by displaying text onscreen), and even listen for spoken voice commands. When used effectively with a conversational interface approach, Microsoft Agent can be a powerful extension and enhancement of the existing interactive modalities of the Microsoft Windows® interface.

Have the Microsoft Agent characters on your computer running the Windows XP operating system stopped talking to you? You may need to install/re-install the SAPI 4.0 speech runtime support. For more information, see the Release Notes on your Windows XP CD-ROM or view the topic in our Troubleshooting guide.
If you are rolling out a Microsoft Agent application that uses the TTS3000 text-to-speech engines, to people who will be running either the Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating systems without local Administrator privileges, we've got special configuration instructions that you may need.
